Joining the firm in 2015, Dan serves as project manager for a variety of McDowell Group’s fisheries, visitor industry, and natural resources studies. Recent projects include the Wholesale Market Profiles for Alaska Groundfish and Crab Fisheries, Economic Impact of Alaska’s Salmon Hatcheries; Juneau Visitor Profile and Economic Impacts; and Port MacKenzie Rail Freight Market Analysis.
A lifelong Alaskan, Dan’s professional experience includes researching public policy as a legislative analyst for the Alaska Legislature; operating his family’s award-winning business, the Gustavus Inn; commercial fishing; serving on the Gustavus City Council; and developing and implementing the renewable energy program at a regional non-profit organization.
Dan completed his undergraduate education at Grinnell College in Biology and Environmental Studies and is currently completing an MBA program through the University of Illinois.
Dan is proficient in R, Tableau (certified associate), ArcGIS, and other tools. Recent data-intensive projects involved transaction data from the Alaska Marine Highway; emergency room visitation and diagnosis data from a regional hospital; linking University of Alaska student records with survey data; and online data dashboard development for various clients.
