Susan manages a wide array of McDowell Group projects including community development and planning, feasibility studies for public and private investments, and public opinion research.
Susan recently rejoined the firm after serving as commissioner of the Alaska Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development. Susan led initiatives to market Alaska domestically and internationally; develop Alaska’s renewable and traditional energy resources; and enhance the business climate. She served as State Co-Chair of the Denali Commission and as a board member for the Alaska Railroad Corporation, Alaska Energy Authority, Alaska Gasline Development Corporation, and Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority.
Formerly a Goldbelt Vice President, Susan was responsible for acquisition and growth of many of the Alaska Native Corporation’s business ventures. A Bering Straits Native Corporation and Sitnasuak Native Corporation shareholder, Susan is originally from Nome. She volunteers for University of Alaska’s Leadership Fellows Program and Big Brothers Big Sisters. She enjoys spending time outdoors with her three Labrador retrievers.
