Joining the firm in 2015, Dan supports and manages a variety of projects, including feasibility studies, survey research, and economic studies. He also brings expertise in data analysis and visualization (R, Tableau, ArcGIS, Adobe Creative Suite). Prior to McDowell Group, Dan’s professional experience included serving as a legislative analyst for the Alaska Legislature; commercial fishing; operating his family’s business, the Gustavus Inn; serving on the Gustavus City Council; and working as the renewable energy coordinator and communications director for a regional non-profit organization. He has a bachelor’s in Biology and Environmental Studies, with honors, from Grinnell College in Iowa.
When not working, Dan runs, skis, and hunts on the ridges and mountains of Juneau and the surrounding area. He also maintains a large garden and a hoard of dried wild mushrooms, local jams, and fermented vegetables.
